Three words to describe you and your job title at the Sentinel?
Creative, spontaneous, fun.

What city do you live in?
Amsterdam. I grew up here and it has become home again. I left for some adventures, and now I am back!

Do you have a favorite sport or hobbies?
I used to play tennis but my favorite sport right now is anything my son is playing! Always his #1 fan. My hobbies include traveling, photography, painting, finding and listening to live music.

Favorite Movie or Series?
It’s hard to choose one, but Amelie comes to mind. It’s a foreign film, but relatable to me. I love the HBO series Insecure.

Favorite Ice Cream?
Coffee ice cream is my all time favorite.

Would you time travel to the future or past?
I don’t think seeing the future would help me live in the moment. I’ve always felt like I was born in the wrong time period… I’d definitely travel to the past.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
I really love when our residents feel comfortable enough to open up to me. Hearing their life experiences can be so enlightening, funny and sometimes sad. But it really makes it easier to understand them and the things they go through currently. They have really become my buddies! I love seeing them laugh.

What tip would you give prospective residents and their families?
I guess my tip would be to encourage new residents to participate in the activities we offer. Adjustment can be hard, but being social is almost always beneficial. For the prospective resident themselves: Be easy on yourself! My job is to help you enjoy your time at The Sentinel. Start small if you have to; and you will start to feel more comfortable.

Three words to describe you and your job title at The Sentinel?
Cheerful, outgoing and thoughtful.

What city do you live in?
Amsterdam.

Do you have a favorite sport or hobby?

My absolute favorite sport is football. I love the NY Giants (Green Bay Packers second, for my husband and son). Nothing compares, though, to watching my three boys play football, lacrosse or basketball. I cannot wait to watch my little girl play one day!

Favorite movie or series?
I have way too many to list, but, if I have to choose, I would say any Hallmark Christmas movie! And yes, I will watch them any time of the year.

Favorite ice cream?
I have two: Mint Chocolate Chip and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, with rainbow sprinkles, of course!

Would you time travel to the future or past?
Nope. As much as I may be tempted, I would not want to risk the butterfly effect. But I would love to see my boys little again and all the family no longer with us.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
I love getting to know the residents and helping them.

What tip would you give prospective residents and their families?
Get to know the staff and caregivers, and make new friends. We are all here to help and enjoy working with the residents and families.

Our residents enjoy a wide variety of social and private activities offered on a daily basis. From Yoga, Bingo and Manicures to Sunday Mass, Baking Clubs and Horse Racing, our programming is truly unique. See for yourself!

The Sentinel is the best assisted-living residence I have ever toured. My Mom is a resident there. The staff is extremely caring. Mom receives assistance for the tasks she needs help with. Everything is very clean. There are many windows and lots of light. The food is good, and the staff is open to suggestions. The activities are fun, and my mom is always busy. I can’t say enough great words about The Sentinel of Amsterdam.

You have to tour this fine assisted-living residence, meet the administration, staff and all the happy residents.

Connie N.

The facility is top notch, the staff are extremely helpful and friendly, the Administration is professional, knowledgeable and caring, and the residents rock!

– Carol S.

Always doing something nice for the residents and also for their families on special occasions. Staff treat residents well, with smiles, and encouraging words. A very nice place with a great staff.

– Gary G.

The staff at The Sentinel are beyond exceptional. They are so passionate about what they do, and I would recommend anybody to see the facility and meeting the amazing staff. ❤

This place is a godsend to our family. My widowed father-in-law was quite lonely and struggling to manage in his apartment, but now that he has moved to The Sentinel, he has made new friends, enjoys the excellent meals in the dining room (especially the soups), has his laundry done for him, jokes with the friendly attentive staff, attends the activities (including the theater) and relaxes in the comforts of his room. The staff made our whole family feel very welcome during our initial visit and went way out of their way to ease Dad’s transition in the move. They even came with a van to his apartment to collect his belongings and the few bits of furniture he wanted to bring (desk, file cabinet, recliner).

There is a primary care doctor who comes to the office in the facility weekly to see patients there, and transport can be arranged to go to specialist physicians, as needed. I call this place the “Taj Mahal” of assisted-living facilities! I have visited such places all over the U.S. and worked in many, and this is truly one of the finest.

– Allison B.

Wonderful place! Visited a family friend. Place was clean, new facilities and offered so many fun activities for their residents!

– K.H.

It’s so sweet when they hire an outdoor DJ, as I live nearby and enjoy the tunes! The place looks so nice and clean. I love seeing the residents outside.
