What tip would you give prospective residents and their families?
To really “take in” what it means to move into an assisted living facility, and then find ways to simplify their lives ex; bring a device with them ex; ipad to be able to see family members when they can not visit, to order items that they need from time to time etc.
Think about their living quarters, will it be a single or double room, will they have a room mate etc. ..and to understand, it is not a nursing home, trying to remain independent for as long as they can is the goal….get involved in programs, exercise, yoga, painting, reading, listening to music, socializing, making friends, try new things….

It’s a great place to live and make friends. I like the entertainment, and the workers are all nice. I’ve been living here since the beginning—the second resident to move in. And, I love watching my people grow and get better.

The Sentinel of Port Jervis is a wonderful place for you or your loved one. The staff is super friendly and kind. The aides take very good care of their residents, and the administration works diligently to make everything easier. When you walk through the doors of The Sentinel, you are more than a guest, more than a resident. You are family.

Recently, I have had the experience of relocating our aunt to The Sentinel of Port Jervis. This establishment is an assisted-living community new to this area.
I am very pleased with the appearance of The Sentinel. It has a very pleasant, artistic, neat and clean atmosphere. There is an activities room with an attached patio, another patio off the first floor corridor, a café where residents can obtain drinks and snacks at no additional cost to them, a lovely dining room that resembles a restaurant and a light, airy lobby with level access to the outside. There are numerous other attributes, too many to mention.
Beyond that, the staff is exceptional. They are committed to providing a high level of care. In addition, they always address the residents with respect and a caring heart. They make the residents feel special, which is how employees of an assisted-living facility should be. The Sentinel of Port Jervis is a huge plus to this area, and I would highly recommend this facility.

A little over two months ago, I had the pleasure of going to The Sentinel of Port Jervis to go on a tour with my mom. I found the facility to be beautiful and the staff friendly. Although I went through all the apprehensions a person would go through, knowing you’re entrusting your loved one to, essentially, strangers, I have experienced how the staff have won my mom over with their patience, compassion and playful ways. I have seen my mom thrive, making friends and become involved in The Sentinel’s awesome activities. The Sentinel of Port Jervis has really been a blessing. I want to give the administrative staff a ‘thank you’ for making the admission process so easy. I’d like to thank the hands-on workers, such as the Nurses, Medication Techs, aides, kitchen staff and the activities staff for their hard work. You have all made a believer out of me! I would recommend The Sentinel of Port Jervis to anyone looking for an awesome place for their loved ones.
– Adrian M.
I began following The Sentinel of Port Jervis as soon as I saw the sign go up. I’ve seen pictures and adored the smiles. I took my daughter to their Halloween event and was immediately greeted with smiles, candy and directions to the goodies. I inquired about housing for a loved one, and, within minutes, we were greeted, and she was taken for screening immediately! Thank you to everyone involved for an amazing party and a sense of security.

Moving your loved one to assisted living is one of the hardest decisions to make. But, once you meet the staff at The Sentinel, you are comforted in knowing that they are dedicated and caring professionals. They have made our Mom (as well as us) feel welcome! I know that The Sentinel will become an important part of the Port Jervis/Tri-State community.
